The Art Museum of Southeast Texas features a permanent collection of 1,000 paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other works of art spanning the last 200 years of American history. It also brings in eight to 10 temporary exhibits each year, which have included displays from such esteemed artists as 19th-century print-master James A. McNeill Whistler, pool cue decorator Richard Black, and the abstract steel works of George Tobolowsky. It lies in the heart of town, a few blocks east of Wiess Park.
